# Understand feature access

> Learn why K16 features appear by workspace, product configuration, and role permissions.

K16 evaluates two kinds of access before showing a feature:

1. **Workspace availability** determines whether the product capability is enabled for the institution.
2. **Role permission** determines whether your account can view or manage that capability.

Depending on the feature, K16 hides unavailable navigation, disables an action, or shows an access message. Seeing a page does not mean you can perform every action on it.

## Common access patterns

| Capability                           | Typical requirement                                            |
| ------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Archive courses, people, and imports | Archive capability enabled for the workspace |
| DataX catalog and Lakehouse | DataX capability enabled |
| Worksheets and DataX Assistant | DataX plus the required data or AI access |
| Administration | A role with the matching organization permission |
| Data access and column constraints | **Manage** under **Roles**, plus the relevant DataX capability |

<Note>
  Documentation describes the complete released product. Your workspace may expose only a subset.
</Note>

If you need additional access, give your administrator the exact menu item or action you need and the business task you are trying to complete. Administrators can compare your role with the [permission reference](/reference/permissions).
