# Sync and restore a course

> Send an archived course to a configured LMS destination or restore a supported course.

K16 can send an archived course to a destination LMS integration. For supported Canvas and Brightspace destinations, K16 can also offer a restore action.

<Warning>
  Sync and restore change an external LMS. Confirm the course and destination with your LMS
  administrator before you start.
</Warning>

## Before you begin

You need:

* access to the archived course
* **Sync courses** permission for syncing or **Restore courses** permission for restoring
* an active destination LMS integration
* approval to create or update course content in that destination

With integration-viewing access, **Sync to LMS** lists configured destination integrations. Without it, the menu can offer **Sync course** or **Restore course** using the course's configured workflow. Confirm that destination with your administrator before running either action.

## Sync to an LMS

<Steps>
  <Step title="Verify the archived course">
    Open **Overview** and **Settings**. Confirm the title, term, course code, SIS course ID, and
    source integration.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open Gradebook">
    Select **Gradebook** in the course navigation. The course actions appear above the grade matrix.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the sync actions">Select **Sync to LMS**.</Step>

  <Step title="Choose the destination">
    Under **Sync To LMS**, select **Sync to** followed by the destination integration name. If only
    **Sync course** appears, use it only after confirming the configured destination.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Record the result">
    K16 shows a status message after it accepts or rejects the request. Keep the course ID,
    destination, and message for your audit trail.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Restore a course

**Restore Course** appears only for configured destinations that support the restore workflow.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Confirm this is a restore">
    Verify with your LMS administrator that the intended course should be restored rather than
    created or updated through a normal sync.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the course actions">From **Gradebook**, select **Sync to LMS**.</Step>

  <Step title="Choose Restore Course">
    Under **Restore Course**, select **Restore in** followed by the destination integration name, or
    use **Restore course** when that is the action offered for your account.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Verify in the LMS">
    After K16 accepts the request, use your institution's LMS process to confirm the destination
    course and its content.
  </Step>
</Steps>
