# Get started with AI Detection

> Open the AI Detection workbook and complete a responsible first review.

Use this guide to move from the K16 navigation to one contextualized submission result.

## Before you begin

You need:

* a K16 workspace with AI Detection enabled
* reporting access
* an institution-approved purpose for reviewing student work
* familiarity with your academic-integrity and privacy policies

## Complete your first review

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the dashboard">
    In the main navigation, open **Analytics**, then select **AI Detection Dashboard**. K16 loads
    the reporting workbook in the page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Narrow the report">
    Apply one or two filters, such as term, submission date, student, course, or classification,
    when those controls are available.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open a course or student summary">
    Select a row that supports your review goal. Avoid drawing conclusions from a leaderboard or
    aggregate percentage.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open a submission">
    Review the submission title, type, student, date, classification, overall score, and
    sentence-level result.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Document human review">
    Record the context you checked and the next step required by your institution. Do not record the
    AI result as a final determination by itself.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Choose the right starting point

| Goal                                 | Start with                                                           |
| ------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Understand institution-wide patterns | [Dashboard](/ai-detection/dashboard)                                 |
| Review one class                     | [Course reports](/ai-detection/course-reports)                       |
| Understand one result                | [Submission results](/ai-detection/submission-results)               |
| Resolve an interpretation question | [Interpret results and FAQ](/ai-detection/interpret-results-and-faq) |

<Tip>
  Begin with the narrowest scope that answers your question. A course or submission view usually
  provides more useful context than an institution-wide ranking.
